Between today and tomorrow the European Union will declare the rules that will unify the Union communications market.
It seems that media companies like Google, Yahoo, anyone publishing parts of news coming from traditional publishers, will be required to pay fees to the originators of these texts. The other intervention area seems to be directed at companies like Skype, WhatsApp, that will most likely see their businesses affected by the same regulation today imposed on traditional telecom operators.
If the above is confirmed, the strongest signal we get is more a protectionist one (protection of the incumbent more than the consumer) than a step closer to a continental unified market offering fair conditions to its millions of customers.
On the competition side too, we live through swings, this one could be a huge backwards one
